* Application : medium of choice for heavy metal toxicity tests; the exclusion of EDTA from this formulation allows more sensitive detection of heavy metals.
1. EPA Test Method 1002.0 (but EDTA free) (Daphnid Ceriodaphnia dubia, Survival and Reproduction Test). 2. EPA Test Method 1003.0 (but EDTA free) (Green Alga, Selenastrum capricornutum, Growth Test).
* How is the product supplied ? - As a 2-part mix, in packs containing 12 kits (enough to make 12 x 2 litres of EPA 1002/1003 medium). Each part of the 2-part mix is sterile and is provided in a convenient 5ml syringe; the two syringes are provided in a sealed sterile pack. * To Make the Medium: - Open a 2-syringe kit. Then add the the contents of one 5ml syringe to 2 litres of pure water, mix thoroughly, then add contents of the other 5 ml syringe and mix (instructions accompany the product). Aerate the mixture, adjust pH if necessary (recommended for EPA method 1003.0) and filter sterilise. NOTE: EPA-1002/1003 is sterile; the final sterilisation step (described above) is necessary only if diluent (water) is not sterile and/or if sterile technique has not been used while preparing the final medium. * Reference (EDTA-version): "Short-term methods for estimating the chronic toxicity of effluents and receiving waters to freshwater organisms."
